The below SEO Discussion
provides a brief overview of the basic elements of SEO work
including keyword use, keyword count and overall page and site
structure.
Discussion
Search Engine
Optimization [SEO] is a never-ending effort. There are many
different aspects in a constantly changing, and growing,
environment. For SEO, there are many common tools of the trade
and we review many of them here. However, success on the
Internet is truly comprised of more factors than just SEO work
alone.
We define SEO as the effort to design and construct individual
web pages and the overall web site such that each of the pages on a
web site have planned intent and each page is indexed by the search
engines. Further, that the each page consist of search
relevant terms and internal architecture to have the best
opportunity for success within the search engine algorithms.
Additionally, that this internal structure is presented in a way
that is useful and beneficial to the common web user - your future
customer.
What does that mean?
As you well know, on the average web site you will have content
pages and pages which have interaction features - such as a Reply
Form. There any number of purposes for a particular page and
that purpose should be represented by the text content. The
text content representing the key them, or keywords, for that page
to be found for that particular concept.
In addition to just adding keywords in your body text, there are
other relevant edits one can make to a page to increase its search
engine friendliness. Use of META Tags is a standard method of
adding key terms to a page. Use of Headlines, Alt-Image tags
and other techniques can all influence how relevant a page can
become.
What Keywords do I use?
The number of keywords, and more importantly, keyword phrases,
depends greatly on what your organization does, how many competitors
you have, how popular what you do is to customers and a number of
other factors. Given an individual concept, our research into
that concept will typically reveal at least six related terms.
Of those related terms, additional research will typically reveal
another six terms for a total 'captured concept' of about 42
terms. Given those 42 terms, or phrases, our research
typically uncovers that about 45% to 60% of them are actually used
sufficiently to make a page attractive and more likely to prove a
positive ROI. It is this 45% to 60%of the terms you want to
use.
What else do I do?
With SEO, everything is relative and everything changes over
time. Therefore, the answer you have today may not be the
answer you need tomorrow. Today, one web site page may require
the use of a certain term only X% of the time. Tomorrow, it
may require Y%. Knowing what else to do is where the
Seonometrics™
approach really yields a benefit. We help decipher what is too
little, what is too much and alternative approaches to relaying the
information your must relay to the human eye while better directing
the computer eye to what is relevant to your organization.
