Webpage and Website Structure
As
with most aspects of SEO, or even SEM, efforts, there are multiple
aspects to consider for each step. For site structure, one
must be concerned with the site in terms of 'human eyes' and
'computer eyes.'
There
are elements of many websites that cannot be scanned or understood
by a search engine spider. Use of Flash technology, which is
often the best way to communicate something, is a popular example of
what not to do for a 'search engine friendly' website.
However, we see it differently, the question is not whether one
should bar the use of an enhanced technology, but how to properly
apply that technology.
Navigational
structure within a site is another example. What may be the
simplest form of navigation for one person may be an irritant to
another. Both approaches may not easily allow for a search
engine spider to crawl the website. Easy to follow. Easy
to understand and redundant navigation systems are essential - as
long as they lead a person to a meaningful destination - to a goal.
Within
each webpage, structure again can be viewed through the two
different sets of eyes. a Computer cannot see color, cannot
see a picture, cannot watch a move or listen to a song. A
person can. Layout, use of color, use of shapes, symbols, text
and other content all enhance the human experience. Each needs
to be done with consideration as to how the computer will interpret
what is otherwise beautiful.
